GraceLaced: Book Review
GraceLaced: Discovering Timeless Truths Through Seasons of the Heart
I have been following @gracelaced on Instagram for the past couple years. I was drawn to the page due to the beautiful Scriptural reminders and everyday encouragement. I have purchased artwork from The GraceLaced Shoppe that is displayed in every room of my home for its beauty and uplifting message.
Allow me to introduce you to the author of GraceLaced: “Ruth Chou Simons is an artist, writer, entrepreneur, and speaker who shares her journey of how God’s grace intersects daily life through word and brush at GraceLaced.com- the popular blog, online shoppe, and Instagram community that welcomes thousands daily. Ruth is an unlikely mom to six young boys and wife to Troy, with whom she leads GraceLaced’s small but mighty team. When not painting, writing, and casting vision for GraceLaced.com, Ruth is usually busy eating chips and salsa, sorting laundry, cooking for large crowds, not finishing her sentences, and discovering off-beaten paths in the wild with her guys. She is a devotee of pho, a recovering perfectionist, a converted four-wheeling enthusiast, and a believer in waiting upon her Redeemer through every season.”
Does Ruth not sound like someone you want to come alongside, learn from, and with whom to just spend an afternoon? As a mother to three boys, I so appreciate Ruth’s insights on motherhood, shepherding our little men, and how God sanctifies us through motherhood.
“GraceLaced is about more than pretty florals and fanciful brushwork- it’s about flourishing. With carefully crafted intention, this beautiful volume of 32 seasonal devotions from artist Ruth Chou Simons encourages readers in any circumstance to become deeply rooted in God’s faithful promises.”
I anticipated this book for the beauty of GraceLaced art and the reminders of God’s everyday faithfulness. The book is divided into four seasons: Winter-resting in God’s character, Spring- Rehearsing the truth, Summer- Responding in Faith, and Fall-remembering God’s provisions. Each devotion focuses on a Scripture verse and includes real life examples of how these truths can be difficult to believe throughout our imperfect days. Ruth includes personal anecdotes that helped me relate to her and understand how to apply these truths. As you draw closer to God, you will be more equipped to see His grace laced through those days and your confidence in Him will continue to grow. There are additional Scripture passages for each devotion that invites you to delve deeper and see the consistency of God’s truth through the entire Bible. Each devotion ends with a response section where you are challenged to evaluate your heart and actions and how they align with the truth of God’s Word. “Who we are and who God is never changes, even though everything else rarely stays the same. Let this book point you to truth as you journey through the changing seasons of your heart.”
I see myself going back through this devotional for years to come and adding to my response sections. This will also help me remember where I’ve been and how far God has brought me as I reflect on my previous seasons of life. The message is timeless and rooted in the Word of God. I highly recommend this devotional to any women who seek to abide in Christ and gain a stronger focus of the Lord’s work in and around their lives.
