Just a glimpse at my typical to do list. But these action items are not one and done; oh no, these items are on a repeat cycle. Every day, every week, every MOMent these items go around and come around and it can get tiring. This is where the call to faithfulness in motherhood kicks in to enable us to properly serve our families.

Living in the everyday can lead to discouragement and discontentment. Every MOMent isn’t cause for celebration or an example of the fruits of our labor. The household tasks, the seemingly constant discipline, and trying to find a purpose in the mundane can lead to weary hearts and distracted minds. But let us no lose sight of the importance of our mothering work. “Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.” (1 Corinthians 15:58). When we are faithful in our homemaking, then we create an environment that is welcoming and open for our children’s growth and development. When we are faithful in discipline, then we prepare the hearts of our children for the truth of God’s mercy and grace. When we are faithful in the mundane, then we can take hope that our labor is not in vain and believe that the Lord can use our work for His glory.

It is tempting to become disgruntled in the calling to do all the things again and again. We become unsatisfied with our daily MOMents because we know they will be repeated weekly, daily, or hourly. In these MOMents, let us remember, “Only fear the Lord and serve him faithfully with all your heart. For consider what great things He has done for you.” (1 Samuel 12:24). We are able to be faithful in the repetition of our days because the Lord remains faithful across time and space. Consider all the MOMents He has proven faithful in your life again and again. Reflect over how He has shown you His faithfulness and walk in that same faithfulness in the work He has provided. Give praise to the Lord when you remain faithful in your work again and again.

How can we guide our hearts towards faithfulness in the MOMents where we might get distracted or dismayed? Proverbs 3:3-4 reminds us, “Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you; bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart. So you will find favor and good success in the sight of God and man.Meditate on the Word of God and dwell richly in His presence. Place Scripture that encourages you in the places you most often enter discouragement. Frame a floral encased verse and prop it up next to your sink full of dishes. Fit a notecard with a verse on patience into the dash of your car for when you get stuck in traffic. Get a bracelet with a reference or key word to remind you to abide as you go through the day. There are so many ways to practically bind Scripture around our necks. The more we read and repeat the Word the deeper it is written on our hearts. Let us be faithful to walk in the love and faithfulness of the Lord so that it flows out of us.

As a mother, there are so many opportunities to practice faithfulness in our day-to-day activities. Faithfulness must be purposeful and practiced. When we remain faithful in the work of motherhood we usher in the joy of the Lord to our daily lives. We begin to see our to do list not as hindering our days and occupying our time, but as opportunities to serve the Lord and our families.
